A little bit of magic, a whole lot of sweetness, and a birthday fit for a butterfly princess!
Sweet Bella fluttered into my Wake Forest photography studio to celebrate her very first birthday, surrounded by dreamy shades of blush pink, lavender, and soft blue. From her beautiful butterfly-covered dress to the delicate wings on her back, every little detail brought this whimsical birthday celebration to life. And that precious smile? Absolutely unforgettable!
One of the sweetest parts of photographing one-year-olds is that you never quite know what they’re going to do next! Mom and Dad were hoping we might capture Bella standing independently or perhaps even taking a few of those precious first steps. Bella, however, had an entirely different plan.
Why walk when crawling gets you exactly where you want to go?
Despite Mom and Dad’s encouragement, this determined little butterfly was perfectly content exploring my studio on her hands and knees. She had places to go, things to discover, and absolutely no intention of letting anyone rush her into walking!
And you know what? That’s exactly what makes these milestone sessions so special. It’s not about getting the perfect pose or reaching a milestone on anyone else’s timeline. It’s about capturing who your little one is in this very moment, whether they’re taking their first steps, crawling at full speed, or simply sitting sweetly and taking it all in.
When it was finally time to bring out the birthday cake, we discovered that Bella had some pretty strong opinions about that, too!
While most parents imagine their little one diving face-first into a delicious cake, Bella was far more interested in investigating her sugary surprise. She poked at the frosting, squished it between her fingers, and explored every bit of its wonderfully messy texture.
But the real fun began when she decided that her little foot belonged right in the cake!
First birthdays are about so much more than turning one. They’re about celebrating an entire year of growing, learning, discovering, and becoming a little person with a personality all their own.
For Bella, that meant beautiful butterfly wings, plenty of crawling adventures, a few curious expressions, the biggest smiles, and one very memorable cake-covered foot.
