There is something so incredibly special about photographing a family as they welcome a new little one into the world. Every newborn session tells a story, but every now and then, a session comes along that quietly reminds me just how beautiful the bond between siblings can be from the very beginning.
This sweet family recently visited my Wake Forest studio to celebrate the arrival of their beautiful baby girl. She was an absolute dream throughout her session, sleeping peacefully through pose after pose and giving us those soft, sleepy expressions that every parent hopes to remember forever.
What made this session especially memorable, though, was her proud big brother.
From the moment he walked into the studio, it was obvious how much he already adored his new baby sister. He watched over her with such gentle curiosity, carefully laying beside her and soaking in every tiny detail. One of my favourite images from the session is of the two of them lying side by side, completely relaxed, almost as if they had always belonged together.
It’s a photograph that tells an entire story without saying a single word.

Today they’re tiny enough to fit beside one another on a fluffy blanket. Before long, they’ll be racing through the backyard, borrowing each other’s toys, arguing over the TV remote, celebrating birthdays, and creating memories neither of them will realise they’re making. One day, these photographs will remind them where that lifelong friendship began.
One of the things I always encourage families to include during their newborn session is sibling portraits. While babies change dramatically during those first few weeks, siblings are changing too. Capturing those first introductions, the gentle cuddles, curious smiles, and tiny hands reaching for one another creates memories that simply can’t be recreated later.
Of course, we also spent plenty of time focusing on baby girl herself.
Wrapped in soft neutrals, nestled into delicate baskets, and surrounded by cosy textures, she was the perfect little model. Her peaceful personality made each setup feel effortless, allowing us to create a gallery filled with timeless portraits that her family will treasure for generations. Whether wrapped snugly in creamy whites or dressed in soft lavender, every image highlighted just how tiny and precious these first days truly are.

We finished the session with relaxed family portraits, simple, classic, and focused entirely on the connection between them. Years from now, these photographs won’t just remind them what everyone looked like. They’ll remind them how this season of life felt: the excitement, the exhaustion, the overwhelming love, and the beginning of a brand new chapter as a family of four.
It is always an honour to preserve these moments because babies don’t stay little for long. Before you know it, those tiny fingers have grown, sleepy stretches become running feet, and the newborn days become cherished memories.
If you’re expecting and thinking about newborn portraits, I recommend booking during your second or third trimester. Sessions are reserved around your due date, allowing us the flexibility to photograph your baby during those first beautiful days after birth when they are still wonderfully sleepy and curled up.
These moments are fleeting, but the memories don’t have to be. let’s meet up and capture these beautiful photos for your growing family. I can’t wait to meet the next little one who comes through my studio doors. Click to find out more!
